These days, car insurance discounts are all the rage. You never actually hear about the starting or final price, just the many discounts available to drivers.
But we’ve noted before that if the starting price is much higher than comparable quotes, even a ton of discounts won’t translate to the best deal.
For example, a car insurance premium that starts at $900 with no discounts is better than one that starts at $2,000 with 50% off.
That being said, let’s take a look at the discounts offered by one of the top auto insurance companies in the United States.
Allstate Auto Insurance Discounts
55 and retired – save up to 10% if you’re at least 55 years old and retired.
Anti-lock brakes discount – save 10% if your car is equipped with anti-lock brakes.
Anti-theft discount – save up to 10% if your car is equipped with an anti-theft device.
Defensive driver discount – get a discount for completing a defensive drivers course.
Early signing discount – switch before your current policy expires and save up to 10%.
EZ pay plan discount – save up to 5% for setting up auto payments.
Economy car discount – get a discount for driving an “economy car.”
eSmart® discount – if you sign up for an ePolicy (paperless) you can save up to 10%.
Farm vehicle discount – discount for driving a farm vehicle.
Full pay discount – get a discount for paying your premium in full, as opposed to installments.
Good payer discount – save up to 5% for paying on time when you renew.
Good student discount – single full-time students under 25 can save up to 20% with the good student discount if they get good grades, typically a “B” average or Dean’s List.
Multi-policy discount – save an extra 10% on your car insurance by insuring your home or apartment with Allstate.
New car discount – save up to 30% if you drive a new car (2004 and newer models).
Passive restraint discount – save up to 30% if your car has factory installed airbags and motorized seatbelts.
Preferred package discount – get a discount if you insure more than one vehicle, own a home and pay electronically.
Resident student discount – if you have a child at school at least 100 miles away, you can get up to 30% off your insurance premium.
Safe driver discount – save 45% or more if you’re a good driver; Premier Discount if you have been accident free for the past three years and clear of any moving violations, Premier Plus Discount if 5 years (Allstate safe driving bonus check)
Senior citizen discount – discounts available for senior citizens.
teenSMART discount – if you’re between 16 and 21, and successfully complete the teenSMART program, you’re eligible for a discount.
